Check the debug log (~/.starcluster/logs/debug.log).
I suspect the requested machine never started -- cc2.8xlarge are in short supply.
This is the text from the debug log around that time. It hadn't occurred to me that this instance might not be available. Is there another way I can check availability before launching starcluster? Thanks.

If I choose the instance "HVM StarCluster ami-4583572c" with cluster size 1
and NODE_INSTANCE_TYPE = cc2.8xlarge then I get the following error message.
Any idea what could be causing this? I don't have this problem if I switch
to the 64 bit AMI with instance type c1.xlarge. Thanks, Chris
