Might give this a try when calling mpirun:

user_at_master $ export R_PROFILE=/usr/lib/R/site-library/Rmpi/Rprofile
user_at_master $ mpirun -n 4 --hostfile hostfile R CMD BATCH load.R

Need to check that the R_PROFILE path actually exists, but I'm curious
if this helps at all...
